Unitarian Small Group Ministries Via Phone

The Winter of 2010 will mark the first session in a series of free-thinking Biblical studies and devotionals sponsored by Unitarian Ministries in affiliation with The Center for Progressive Christianity. All classes will be held via phone conference. The only requirement is that participants have long distance access on their cell or house phone and a copy of the following book(s):

Schedule of Winter and Spring Classes 2010

 

Session 1 : The Gospel of Mark

Duration:  3 weeks (January 10,  17, 24)       

Time: Sunday at 7:00 p.m Eastern Standard Time (SC and NY Time Zone)

Session 2 : The Gospel of John

Duration:  3 weeks (February 7, 14, 21)

Time: Sunday at 7:00 p.m Eastern Standard Time (SC and NY Time Zone)

Session 3: The Gospel of Thomas

Duration: 3 weeks (March 7, 14, 21)

Time: Sunday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (SC and NY Time Zone)                                  

Session 4 : Infancy Gospel of Thomas

Duration: 3 weeks (April 11, 18,  25)

Time: Sunday at 7:00 p.m Eastern Standard Time (SC and NY Time Zone)

Session 5 : The Gospel of Mary; The Gospel of Hebrews

Duration: 3 weeks (May 9, 16,  23)

Time: Sunday at 7:00 p.m Eastern Standard Time (SC and NY Time Zone)

 

Tele-Devotionals will not be held during the months of November, December, June, & July; this is the time for our Winter and Summer Breaks.

Tele-Devotionals will be conducted in the following manner by the resident pastor of Unitarian Ministries:

  1. Opening Prayer
  2. Welcome and Introduction to the Theme of Study
  3. Selected Scriptural Readings (Group Participation)
  4. Personal Reflections
  5. Closing Prayer

*All tele-devotionals will not exceed one hour. Scheduled sessions that do not have a minimum participation of 3 people will be canceled at approximately 7:15 p.m.

 

Suggested Rules of Discussion Established by The Center of Progressive Christianity:

  1. Listen to each other.
  2. Do not interrupt.
  3. Do not monopolize the conversation.
  4. Make sure that everyone who wishes to speak gets a chance.
  5. Speak respectfully to each other.
  6. Speak from personal experience rather than making broad sweeping statements.
  7. Do not criticize another member’s expression of faith or belief. 
  8. If someone hits a  sore point, speak up.
  9. Be present to learn and grow – not to change others in the group.
  10. Remind the group they will be dealing with issues close to the heart and that it is inevitable that they will uncover divergent views.
